It is one of those details most people never notice until they see it.
You are walking through the parking lot at Spanish Springs, and a car catches your eye. Not because of the paint or the wheels, but because of the flash of bright red behind the spokes.
Painted brake calipers.
It is a small change, but it makes a car look finished. Sporty, clean, and a little more personal.
If you have been thinking about doing it to your own car, you probably have a few questions. What does it cost? Will it hold up in Florida heat? And is it really worth it?
Here is what you should know.
Bare Calipers Do Not Stay Clean for Long
Look through the wheels of most cars a few years old and you will see the same thing: dull gray calipers coated in brake dust, often with a little surface rust starting to show.
That is normal. Calipers sit right next to the brake rotors, so they collect dust every time you stop. In Central Florida, humidity and afternoon rain add moisture to the mix, and bare metal starts to corrode.
On a car with open-spoke wheels, it is right there for everyone to see.
A quality caliper coating fixes both problems. It gives the calipers a clean, finished color, and it seals the metal so it is better protected against rust and much easier to keep clean.
How Caliper Painting Is Done Right
Good caliper painting is mostly about preparation.
At our shop, the wheels come off so every caliper can be properly cleaned, degreased, and prepped. Brake dust, grime, and loose rust have to be removed completely, or the coating will not bond the way it should.
The rotors, brake lines, and surrounding parts are carefully protected. Then the calipers are coated with a high-temperature, automotive-grade product made to handle the heat brakes produce.
With our Premium package, a ceramic clear coat goes on top for extra gloss and protection, and the wheels get a full detail before they go back on.
This is also why we do not recommend quick fixes like spray cans from the auto parts store. Without proper prep and the right product, the finish can bubble, flake, or discolor after a few hard stops in July.
What It Costs and How Long It Takes
Pricing for caliper painting at Tim’s Pro Auto Spa is simple.
Our Standard package is $349 for all four calipers, painted in a gloss or semi-gloss color.
Our Premium package is $499 for all four calipers and adds a ceramic clear coat, a wider color selection with custom color matching, and wheel detailing.
Most cars are done in about 2 to 4 hours, depending on the package and the condition of the calipers.
*Prices and timing as listed on our Caliper Painting page at the time of writing. They may change based on your vehicle and the condition of your calipers. Contact us at (352) 277-4721 for details.
Florida Heat Is Not a Problem With the Right Coating
This is the question we hear most often, and it is a fair one. Between hot pavement, strong sun, and the heat from braking, calipers in Florida work in tough conditions.
The coatings we use are made for high temperatures and tested for Florida heat and humidity. They are designed not to peel, crack, or fade under normal driving.
With proper care, painted calipers typically stay fresh for 3 to 5 years.
The biggest factor after that is how you clean them. Brake dust that is left to build up for months will dull any finish, coated or not.
Painting, Covers, or Powder Coating?
If you are researching this, you have probably come across a few other options.
Caliper covers are shells that clip over the existing caliper. They are inexpensive, but they do not fit every vehicle, they can trap heat and debris, and anything that comes loose near your brakes is something you want to avoid.
Powder coating produces a very durable finish, but the calipers have to be removed from the car and disassembled, which means more labor, a higher price, and more time without your car.
Painting with a high-temperature coating sits in the middle. The calipers stay mounted, the job takes hours instead of days, and with good prep the finish holds up for years. For most drivers, it is the best balance of looks, durability, and cost.
Choosing the Right Color
Red is the classic choice, and it is popular for good reason. It looks sporty on almost any paint color.
But it is not the only option. Silver and black give a clean, factory look. Yellow and orange stand out on dark cars. Some owners match the calipers to an accent color on the car, or to a vinyl wrap or trim piece.
If you are not sure, think about how bold you want it to be. A bright color says “look at this.” A subtle one just makes the car look more complete.
We can help you decide when you stop by, and custom color matching is available with our Premium package.
Keeping Painted Calipers Looking Sharp
Rinse the wheels and calipers whenever you wash the car, so brake dust does not have a chance to bake on.
Use a pH-neutral wheel cleaner and a soft brush. Avoid harsh acid-based wheel cleaners, which can dull the finish over time.
And if you are adding protection elsewhere on the car, a ceramic coating on the wheels makes brake dust even easier to rinse off.

But they will change how it looks every time you walk up to it.
It is an affordable upgrade, it takes just a few hours, and done right, it holds up to everything a Florida summer throws at it.
